Readiness for AI is not the same as enthusiasm for AI. Many practices are eager to adopt new tools but have not clarified who approves vendors, who trains staff, or how results will be measured. This scorecard is designed to surface that gap before money is spent and workflows are disrupted. It gives physician leaders a structured way to assess whether the practice has the operational discipline to benefit from AI rather than simply accumulate more software. The questions focus on governance, workflow clarity, technical fit, and human capacity.
The highest-value section looks at workflow definition. If a practice cannot describe where time is being lost today, it is unlikely to choose the right tool tomorrow. Physicians should identify one or two narrow problems with measurable drag, such as note completion after hours, authorization turnaround time, or patient-message backlog. The scorecard asks whether baseline metrics exist and whether the team agrees on what improvement would justify a rollout. That matters because AI projects fail quietly when success is defined only as general excitement instead of a specific operational gain.
Another section scores readiness around risk and staffing. Does the practice know which tools already touch patient data? Is there a decision maker for vendor approval? Can someone own training and monitor whether staff are using the tool correctly after the initial launch? Many small clinics underestimate this part because the technology seems easy to access. In reality, the limiting factor is often not technical installation but consistent behavior under clinical workload. A tool is not ready for scale if only one enthusiastic physician knows how to use it safely.
Interpret the final score as a planning guide, not a verdict on whether your practice is innovative enough. A low score usually means the next move is smaller, not that AI should be abandoned. Start with one contained workflow, define guardrails, and review outcomes after thirty to ninety days. A higher score means the practice may be ready to test a broader stack or a more integrated vendor. Either way, the point of the scorecard is to turn vague readiness conversations into a concrete plan that physicians can defend operationally and financially.
